The currency of Extinction
This piece highlights the exploitation of animals facing extinction, focusing on the rhino and its struggle for survival. I sculpted a rhino head with its horns detached to symbolize the separation caused by poaching and greed. The gold leaf represents how society views their beauty and horns as valuable commodities, while the red splashes signify the violence and bloodshed behind this exploitation.
The textures and fragmented elements are intentional, reflecting the broken state of these creatures and the harm inflicted upon them. I left parts of the piece "unfinished" or unpolished to emphasize this fragmentation, mirroring the incomplete and fragile future these animals face. Through this work, I hope to convey the tragic reality of valuing animals for profit over their existence and invite reflection on the urgent need to protect them.
